Teriparatide

A recombinant 34-amino-acid synthetic peptide identical to the N-terminal active fragment of human parathyroid hormone (PTH 1-34, CAS 52232-67-4). Intermittent daily subcutaneous administration agonizes the PTH1 receptor on osteoblasts, shifting bone remodeling toward anabolism rather than the catabolic effect of sustained PTH exposure. FDA-approved by Eli Lilly as Forteo (2002) for postmenopausal osteoporosis, male osteoporosis, and glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis — the first anabolic (bone-building) osteoporosis therapy approved in the US.
