A recombinant fusion protein combining the extracellular domain of activin receptor type IIB (ActRIIB) with the Fc region of human IgG1 (CAS 1621169-52-5). Acts as a soluble decoy receptor for myostatin, activin A, and other TGF-beta superfamily ligands that signal muscle catabolism, promoting muscle hypertrophy via disinhibition of the Akt/mTOR pathway. Developed by Acceleron Pharma; Phase 2 trial in Duchenne muscular dystrophy was halted in 2011 after epistaxis and telangiectasia signals. Not FDA-approved.
