Ovagen is a synthetic tripeptide, Glu-Asp-Leu (written EDL), from Vladimir Khavinson's short-peptide program. The rest of the family is in Longevity and Bioregulators. A 2006 international patent application by Khavinson and colleagues, published as WO 2007/139430, claims it as glutamyl-aspartyl-leucine. PubChem's compound record for the sequence gives the formula C15H25N3O8 and a molecular weight of about 375.4, and does not carry the name Ovagen.
Its three residues are the last three of Bronchogen, a separate tetrapeptide, and a 2016 docking study by the group modeled the two binding the same short DNA sequence (Khavinson, Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine, 2016).
None of the developers' papers PeptideScouter found studies the ovary. The group's 2021 review in Molecules lists EDL under the name Ovagen, for regulation of kidney-cell function, hepatoprotection and DNA binding, and cites one 2014 paper on kidney cell cultures for all three.
Its 2022 review in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences, in the table that also lists Livagen, calls Ovagen a nephroprotector and a hepatoprotector, citing a 2017 rat study and the patent application. The table itself scores how well 27 short peptides fit LAT1, an amino-acid transporter, in a computer docking model.
A vendor description PeptideScouter indexes says the peptide was investigated in hepatic and gastrointestinal tissue models.
Every liver experiment PeptideScouter found sits in the 2006 patent application, none in a journal article, and all of it is animal or laboratory work.
Each paper below lists Khavinson as an author, and all are rat or cell-culture work.
The patent application also describes 34 patients aged 30 to 56 with chronic hepatitis, randomly divided, it says, into a peptide group and 15 conventionally treated controls. After treatment, bilirubin had fallen in both groups and was lowest in the peptide group. Alanine aminotransferase, a liver enzyme, fell significantly from baseline only in the peptide group, and AST, cholesterol and triglycerides showed no marked change. The report is a patent example, not a registered trial or a journal article.
A PubMed search by name and by sequence in October 2026 found no other report of the peptide given to people.
